Dr. Kai Lorenzen is Professor of Integrative Fisheries Science at the University of Florida. He uses integrative, trans-disciplinary approaches to address complex fisheries management problems. His research integrates quantitative ecology with human dimensions and engages closely with management initiatives.
Joy Hazell, Ph.D. Student and Research Collaborator. Joy’s Ph.D. research is on governance and collective action in the management of Caribbean FAD fisheries. She is advised jointly with Dr. Jennifer Brewer (University of New Hampshire and UF Courtesy Faculty). Joy is also a Statewide Extension Agent in Conflict Management and lends her expertise in participatory processes and facilitation to many of our collaborative projects.
Ryan Henry, M.S. Student. Ryan studies the efficacy of using hatchery fish to aid shoal bass restoration after hurricane disturbance. He is also a biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Dr. Susana Hervas-Avila, Postdoc. Susana is an interdisciplinary social scientist with particular interests in using qualitative methods to understand fisheries management conflicts. She currently coordinates our project aimed at engaging fisheries stakeholders in the management in the SE Florida Coral Reef Tract.
May Lehmensiek, Ph.D. Student and UF Water Institute Graduate Fellow. May researches occupational attachment and displacement in small-scale commercial fisheries in Florida and in the Brazilian Amazon. She is advised jointly with Dr. Martha Monroe.
